Shropshire really is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Shrewsbury Homes is always looking for new development land across our fair county on which to build desirable properties. When we come across a stunning rural setting in a convenient location and with handy amenities, we know we’ve found the perfect place. Such was the case with Dorrington, the site of our latest development – The Farr’s.
The gateway to the Shropshire Hills
Located midway between Shrewsbury and Church Stretton, the village of Dorrington is often described as the gateway to the Shropshire Hills. It is only a ten-minute drive from Dorrington to Shrewsbury centre, so residents can enjoy all the quiet comforts of village life as well as the thriving culture of a medieval market town.
Dorrington has handy amenities, including a village hall, convenience store, post office and the popular Sadd Butchers Shop. The beautiful Saint Edward’s church, which was built in 1845, sits just across the road from Dorrington Primary School.
You can find great dining out experiences in Dorrington too. Dorrington’s Horseshoes pub and hotel is the much loved hub of the village, offering local, seasonal menus. The Old Hall Restaurant opposite serves Persian inspired cuisine and is considered to be among the best restaurants in Shropshire.
Shrewsbury Homes has named The Farr’s development after William Farr, a British epidemiologist considered one of the founders of medical statistics. Born in Shropshire in 1807, Farr lived in Dorrington where his impoverished family received safe housing by a local Squire, Joseph Pryce.
Pryce’s legacy allowed Farr to study medicine in France and Switzerland. Returning to England and following further studies, he started a medical practice in Fitzroy Square, London. There he became involved in medical journalism and along with his contributions to cholera and tuberculosis research made his mark on the world of medical statistics.
New family homes
In building The Farrs, Shrewsbury Homes is creating a high quality development of family homes. The first stage of our project focused on ten properties, both three-bedroom and four-bedroom. Phase two, which we’re in now, and eventually phase three will result in over twenty new homes.
If you choose to buy off-plan with Shrewsbury Homes, there are a whole host of further benefits to you and your family, including saving money and designing your home exactly to your tastes and needs.
